Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Yussef Dayes, an English drummer and composer from London. His father, a bass player, got him drums when he was four years old, and by age ten Yussef was studying with Billy Cobham.1 He played drums in the avant-garde jazz band United Vibrations and has several collaborative albums: 2016’s Black Focus with keyboardist Kamaal Williams and 2020’s What Kinda Music with guitarist and singer Tom Misch.2 In September, Dayes released his debut LP, the eclectic and sprawling Black Classical Music, which features a wide range of collaborators and contains a throughline of machine-precise and multi-dimensional rhythms. We also highly recommend his Live at Joshua Tree performance which you can watch on YouTube.

Wow, loving it, thank you!
Love his music! And he’s done so many cool collaborations. I featured “Black Focus” last year in the very first Seven Senses ;)
