Yoshio Suzuki
Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Yoshio Suzuki, a bassist and pianist from Nagano, Japan. Suzuki, whose uncle authored the eponymous Method, grew up playing piano and violin, but later took up upright bass on the recommendation of a jazz teacher at Yamaha Music School.1 In the ‘70s he relocated to New York and played bass with the likes of Sonny Rollins, Stan Getz, and Chet Baker. On his solo albums, Suzuki favors lighthearted, precise pieces. We’re playing two LPs from the ‘80s: Morning Picture from 1984 and Touch of Rain from 1986.
