It’s Friday so we’re listening to something more upbeat. Today we’re listening to Yoshihiro Sawasaki, a Japanese electronic music producer based in Kyoto. Sawasaki’s music isn’t just upbeat, it’s optimistic. In the early ‘90s, he drew heavy inspiration from German and French prog rock, putting out synth-driven, “technoized” versions of that music.1 In 1994 he released Perfumed Garden under his own name, a feel-good, funky, very ‘90s record. We’re playing the deluxe version of that album released in 2019 for the 25th anniversary, which includes several additional bonus tracks.
