Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Tatsuro Murakami, a guitarist and composer from Tokyo. We previously recommended him in March 2022. Across the 2010s Murakami made several trips to Brazil to study the nation’s musical traditions, taking up 7-string guitar in the process.1 His own pieces fuse Japanese environmental music with Brazilian pop style. His latest album, An Imaginary Autumn, came out a little over a week ago and hews more toward ambient. We’re also re-upping his 2020 record, Between, whose title is a translation of the Japanese concept 間 (“Ma”) or “the interstice between two things.”2

We wish you a great start to your week.
Enjoying the balance of environmental sounds, physical and electronic instrumentation. Listening to 'Between' now and the band Brokeback comes to mind - was surprised Spotify does not link Murakami's work with theirs. Nice pick for a rainy Monday.
