Good morning.
It’s Friday so we’re listening to something more upbeat. Today we’re listening to Rei Harakami, a Japanese electronic music producer from Hiroshima. Thank you Chad for the recommendation. In the ‘90s, Harakami got involved in the burgeoning techno scene, picking up the Roland SC-88 Pro as his weapon of choice.1 Like Aphex Twin, Harakami used the familiar sonic ingredients of dance music in idiosyncratic and non-obvious ways, creating outré and endearing music. We’re playing his first two albums, unrest from 1998 and opa*q from 1999.
unrest - Rei Harakami (70m, no vocals)

Have a great weekend.
Restless melodies,
Rei Harakami's unrest,
Echoes in my soul.
Spacious, 'small' and intimate, not usually features I associate with electronic dance music. There is space between the notes. Sounds 'airless'. Used to hearing more of the 'room sound' (or the illusion that sound production creates). Small flaw. Enjoyable, delicate with some glitch here and there. The songs have a hidden smile.
