Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Penguin Cafe Orchestra, a band formed by English guitarist Simon Jeffes. Born in Sussex in 1949, Jeffes was inspired early on by folk music and the minimalism of Philip Glass.1 In the early ‘70s, Jeffes conceived of a sound that he would later characterize as “modern semi-acoustic chamber music.”2 The humble hopefulness of Penguin Cafe Orchestra presaged artists decades on like Wes Anderson and Sufjan Stevens. We’re playing two of their albums: Broadcasting from Home from 1984 and their self-titled record from 1981. Jeffes passed away in 1997.

Have a really nice Wednesday.
Love these guys so much, if I can't concentrate, I'll turn on Ricercar - must have listened to it 200 times. Very good to hear more about them, thank you.
Listening now again, just for good measure...
