Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Pat Metheny, an American guitarist from Missouri. Born in 1954, he was inspired in the ‘60s by Miles Davis and Wes Montgomery, becoming a jazz guitar teacher at Berklee College of Music at age 18.1 Across the ‘70s he collaborated with artists such as Joni Mitchell, Ornette Coleman, David Bowie, and Jaco Pastorius.2 We’re playing two of Metheny’s solo albums. Bright Size Life, from 1976, was his first solo LP and has casual fun with harmonic complexity. Works, from 1984, showcases the range of Metheny and his band, from soft ambient jazz to progressive rock.
