Nico Georis

Good morning.

Today we’re listening to Nico Georis, an American keyboardist and composer from California. Now based in Death Valley, Georis has played keyboards across a range of genres including dub, jazz, and new age.¹ We’re starting with his 2022 record A Rainbow in Curved Air, whose titular track is a sprawling psychedelic reimagining of the classic Terry Riley piece. The album’s other three tracks also strum spiritual chords. Shirley Shirley Shirley from 2019 is a series of spare keyboard etudes. We very much enjoyed “Shirley’s Temple.” Georis describes the record as “plant music,” for which he actually connected vegetation to analog synths using MIDI.²
