Good morning.
Today we’re listening to MIZU, a cellist and electronic producer based in New York City. She trained classically at Juilliard and has collaborated with Flow State favorites Rachika Nayar and Tim Hecker among others.1 In her original pieces, she explores the full sonic range of the cello, using all the octaves its strings reach, targeting harmonics, and treating bow and body as a percussive pairing. To these manifold sounds she applies loops and effects and “synth ornamentation,”2 simulating an avant-garde orchestra. She just released a new record, Forest Scenes, a cinematic and atmospheric collection of processed cello. But first we’re playing her 2023 debut LP, Distant Intervals, which evokes a sublime sense of wonder.
Distant Intervals - MIZU (40m, no vocals except chorus in the final two minutes)

We wish you a great start to your week.
I expected something pricklier; instead, MIZU produces warm, earthy radiance. Big fan of cello timbre and pieces.
