Today we’re listening to Michael A. Muller, an American composer based in Los Angeles and one half of the ambient duo Balmorhea (pronounced bal-more-ray). Thank you for the recommendation. Muller formed Balmorhea with Rob Lowe in 2006, and in March the pair discussed their influences and favorite music on Ambient Country Episode 27. Muller himself has put out two records on Deutsche Grammophon. Mirror Music, from March, is a sprawling album featuring a who’s-who of ambient fixtures like Chuck Johnson, Hania Rani, Clarice Jensen, and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma. The second one we’re playing is Lower River, which is his solo debut LP that originally came out in 2019.
