Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Maya Shenfeld, a composer based in Berlin. She originally studied classical guitar, and upon moving to Berlin was exposed to local punk and experimental music scenes.1 She fuses the traditional and sonic avant-garde in her original work. We’re first playing In Free Fall, her LP from 2022, which foregrounds dramatic synth chords and melodies. It’s a contemplative record, featuring drones in the form of synth pads but also of trumpet and choir. We’re also playing her new LP, Under the Sun, which came out this past Friday and turns up the experimentalism. We also enjoy her diptych Sine Wave Meditations which is available on Bandcamp.

Have a great Wednesday.
I saw her and Pedro Maia playing here in Berlin last Friday. It was stunning concert! ♡
Love her music as well. Minor correction: it’s actually Shenfeld (no „i“). 😀
