Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Mac DeMarco, a Canadian guitarist and singer who grew up in Edmonton. In junior high school, he started guitar lessons with his grandmother, eventually moving to Montreal to start his solo career.1 His 2012 debut LP, 2, caught the attention of mainstream music press and lifted DeMarco’s profile. Since then he’s released music in his signature languid, lambent style. That style continues on his first instrumental album which he released last week, Five Easy Hot Dogs. He recorded the 14 tracks on a cross-country road trip during which he quit smoking. We’ve also attached an earlier, vocal-filled album: Here Comes the Cowboy from 2019.
