Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Leo Takami, a Japanese guitarist, keyboardist, and composer based in Tokyo. Takami started playing guitar at 14 and got very into jazz, becoming influenced by “John Coltrane's spaciousness, Bill Evans' colorfulness, [and] Pat Metheny's buoyancy” as he told 15 Questions recently. On his new album, Next Door, he made mellow jazz pieces that subtly demonstrate his virtuosity across guitar and keyboard while sustaining a friendly, comfortable ambience. We’re also playing his 2020 LP, Felis Catus and Silence, a collection of fuller-bodied compositions.
