Good morning.
Today we’re listening to KMRU, a Kenyan music producer from Nairobi. We previously featured Joseph Kamaru’s music in 2020 and in 2023. After gaining traction as a house/techno DJ, he ventured out to Rongai, where he made field recordings and produced ambient music. His 2020 record Peel is a favorite of ours, but today we’re playing his two latest LPs, both released within the past year. Stupor from Oct ‘23 is a triptych of longform, pitched-down, glitchy synths with some field recordings of Nairobi.1 We’re also playing Kamaru’s latest LP, Disconnect, a collaboration with British musician Kevin Richard Martin aka The Bug, which just came out a couple weeks ago.

We wish you a great start to your week.
I did an interview with Joseph back in 2019/20, May be of some interest. We’ve loved watching his career grow since then! https://acloserlisten.com/2020/08/20/sound-propositions-019-kmru/
