Kate Liu
Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Kate Liu, a Singaporean American classical pianist. Thanks to Max for the recommendation. Born in 1994, Liu took up piano at age 4 and was promptly recognized as a prodigy. She entered the Yamaha Music School in Singapore at age six, which was followed by study at the Music Institute of Chicago, the Curtis Institute of Music, and Juilliard.1 Since 2010 she has won several international piano competitions, earning special praise as a performer and interpreter of Chopin. The only album she has on streaming is, fortunately for us, a two-hour collection of her performances of Chopin. Released in 2015, the Chopin survey record contains nocturnes, etudes, ballades, waltzes, mazurkas, and sonatas. There’s also a 90-minute solo concert of hers on YouTube from February.
Chopin: Mazurki Op. 56, Ballada F Minor, Sonata B Minor Op. 58 - Kate Liu (120m, no vocals)
