Good morning.
It’s Friday so we’re listening to something more upbeat. Today we’re listening to K-Hand, an electronic musician and DJ from Detroit. Born in 1964, she played the drums growing up, and for college went to New York where she experienced Larry Levan’s sets at the Paradise Garage.1 Back in Detroit she entered the techno scene, starting her own label and retaining the garage house influences. We’re first playing her 1995 LP, On a Journey, whose crisp, propulsive tracks sound today as fresh as they did when techno was new. We’re also playing her 2021 record, Dance Til Sunrise 1, which skews more balearic but keeps up the tempo. We selected a few more EPs from her discography on our Flow State Today playlist, including her 1994 EP on Warp Records.
On a Journey - K-Hand (70m, no vocals except a computer saying “computer” on “Computer”)
