Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Jo Johnson, an English electronic musician. She kicked off her musical career in the ‘90s, playing in the Brighton punk band Huggy Bear. In the aughts she was drawn to underground techno, and then the 2010s saw her making ambient synthesizer music inspired by Pauline Oliveros, Alice Coltrane, Laurie Spiegel, and others.1 We’re first playing Johnson’s new LP, Let Go Your Fear, which came out in August. “The three tracks on the album are extracts from a long, free improvisation on an early summer’s day and shared with you unedited and unadorned,” she wrote. We’re also playing her debut solo LP, Weaving, which came out in 2014 and is only available on Bandcamp.
