Imaginary Softwoods
Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Imaginary Softwoods, an ambient musician based in Cleveland, Ohio. We first recommended him in 2021. The man behind the ambient/electronic project is synthesist John Elliott, a member of the band Emeralds. With Imaginary Softwoods, Elliott plays with synthesizers and field recordings, creating environmental music that seems to unfurl according to some law of nature. At least that’s the effect we registered listening to his latest record, The Notional Pastures of Imaginary Softwoods, which came out this past February. We’re also revisiting his 2020 record, Annual Flowers in Color, which has slightly more jagged synth waves and a few more arpeggios.
