Horse Lords
Good morning. We’re off next week.
Today we’re listening to Horse Lords, an American experimental rock band from Baltimore. Thanks to Ben for the recommendation. The four-piece group – drums, guitar, bass, saxophone – is structurally a rock band, but their interests are scattered across music.1 Three of the four members are credited with “electronics.” Critics have traced influences to “krautrock, post-punk, Appalachian and African musical traditions”2 and “Mauritanian guitar music, free jazz, [and] classical minimalism.”3 Horse Lords’ new album Comradely Objects came out in November, and it shows the next-level eclecticism of their music. We’re also playing their 2016 record, Interventions, as well as the mathy, jubilant Common Task from 2020.
