Good morning.
Today we’re listening to George Winston, an American composer and pianist. Thanks to David for the recommendation. Born in Michigan and raised primarily in Montana, he was inspired by Vince Guaraldi’s score to the 1965 Charlie Brown Christmas special, as well as by the Doors and Fats Waller among others. He dropped out of college and set out to compose solo piano music, and was first recorded by John Fahey in 1972. We’re first playing his album December from 1982, which opens with a few of his most popular pieces. His 1996 album Forest won a Grammy for Best New Age album. It explores the full sonic range of the piano, emphasizing its percussiveness. Winston passed away in June at the age of 74.
