Flow State Episode 203: Michael Cina

Good morning.

Today’s episode is a collaboration with

, a versatile artist and designer based in North St. Paul, Minnesota. Currently the principal of Cina Associates, he has gained a wealth of experience, having garnered accolades such as an Emmy win and a Grammy nomination for his design work. Cina also continues as an accomplished painter, showcasing his distinctive artwork in exhibitions worldwide. He also writes a newsletter, , about his own process and design in general.

Michael shared a long playlist of his favorite instrumental music to work to. From the playlist we derived the tracklist below, focusing on artists we haven’t featured yet in Flow State (we think). It’s mostly ambient, with some piano and synth arpeggios, and the last 20-30 minutes are a more upbeat electronic. We hope you enjoy.

Michael shared the following about the music: “I use music to evoke seasons, worlds, moods, desires, etc. This season passed from a sweltering summer to winter, leaving my fall playlist tradition unfulfilled. My playlist is a fusion of elements from my past two autumn playlists and some songs I would have included for this year. It's a testament to finding beauty and solace in the unexpected. Music knows no bounds when it comes to capturing whatever we desire, be it the essence of changing seasons or the emotions that accompany them.”
