Don Muro
Good morning.
It’s Friday so we’re listening to something more upbeat. Today we’re listening to Don Muro, an American synthesist and guitarist. Born circa 1950, Muro was inspired early on by Wendy Carlos’s era-ushering record Switched-On Bach, as well as David Bowie’s Man Who Sold The World.1 On his 1977 debut album, It’s Time, Muro wrote all the songs and played all the instruments. The tracks have an earnestness that characterizes early synthesizer recordings. “Squash” is an absolute smash. But first we’re playing the nearly vocal-free Anthology from 1981, which is more synth-centric and equally ebullient, although it has limited streaming availability.
