Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Dizzy Reece, a Jamaican jazz trumpeter from Kingston. Born in 1931, Reece switched from saxophone to trumpet at age 14, and at 16 moved to London to pursue jazz professionally.1 That’s where he recorded his 1958 debut LP, Blues in Trinity, which was released on Blue Note and features Donald Byrd as co-trumpeter, Tubby Hayes on tenor sax, and Art Taylor on Drums.2 We’re also playing Reece’s 1960 record, Star Bright, another Blue Note release which Reece recorded in New York City with Art Taylor (again), Wynton Kelly on piano, and Hank Mobley on tenor sax.3

Have a really nice Thursday.
Great recommendation! I’m a huge jazz fan, and this was a blind spot even for me. Byrd is incredible on these records too.
