Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Carter Burwell, an American composer from New York City. Burwell’s first feature score was the Coen Brothers’ debut: Blood Simple in 1984.1 Since then, Burwell has scored most of the Coen Brothers’ movies, notably Fargo and A Serious Man. More recently, he scored Martin McDonagh’s Banshees of Inisherin, for which he received his third Oscar nomination (though he lost last night to Volker Bertelmann’s All Quiet score). We’re playing the Banshees score as well as Burwell’s underappreciated 2006 one for Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus. Both compositions are filled with mystery and intrigue. We share additional selections from his discography on Flow State Today.
