Today we’re listening to Brad Mehldau, an American jazz pianist from Florida. We’ve recommended him four times before this. He was born in 1970 and grew up in Florida and Connecticut, eventually moving to New York City to study jazz at the New School in the late ‘80s.1 Mehldau’s latest album, After Bach II, is a sequel to his 2018 record. Like its predecessor, After Bach II features performances of Bach preludes and fugues along with original pieces and improvisations by Mehldau himself. We’re also re-upping Mehldau’s solo record from last year, Your Mother Should Know, a series of solo jazz reconfigurations of Beatles standards.
