Billow Observatory

Good morning.

Today we’re listening to Billow Observatory, an ambient music duo made up of Jason Kolb of Detroit and Jonas Munk of Denmark. The pair record synth and guitar, and then pass those recordings through all kinds of filters and effects, producing richly textured, cinematic pieces. Their self-titled debut LP from 2012 introduced this aesthetic, and we’re revisiting it today. But first we’re playing their 2022 LP, Stareside, which adds a layer of rhythmic elements to this same foundational style.
