Good morning.
It’s Friday so we’re listening to something more upbeat. Today we’re listening to Axel Boman, a Swedish producer and DJ. He started DJing at age 13, coming up in the ‘90s DJing in techno clubs, though the biggest influence on his own music was dub.1 He listened to a lot of reggae and dub music, and in his own music fuses those genres’ low-slung, echoey emanations with dance formats. We’re playing two albums released nine years apart. Family Vacation from 2013 is his debut LP, demonstrating that dubby, almost deep house style. Quest for Fire from 2022 presents a more polished style, with tracks that strike us as more for headphones than for dancefloors.
