Good morning.
It’s Friday so we’re listening to something more upbeat. Today we’re listening to Armando, a house producer and DJ from Chicago. Born in 1970, he became a fixture of the Chicago dance music scene in the ‘90s, until his untimely passing at age 26. He created several club classics (“Land of Confusion,” “151”) and inspired many others to create their own ones (Paul Johnson, Ron Trent, Terry Hunter, Daft Punk). 5Mag published a comprehensive oral history of Armando’s life and work back in 2008. We’re listening to a 2005 collection of his music called Trax Classix, a great introduction to his propulsive, loop-heavy style. On SoundCloud there’s a 45-minute recording of a set he played on WBMX Chicago circa 1988.
