Ami Dang
Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Ami Dang, a Punjabi-American sitarist, composer, and vocalist from Baltimore. At age 12, Dang started playing sitar, with a focus on North Indian classical music.1 Around 18, she began producing digital music and went on to study music technology and composition at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.2 We’re first playing her 2019 record, Parted Plains, a collection of nourishing instrumentals inspired by South Asian and Middle Eastern folktales.3 We’re also playing Dang’s new album just out this past Friday, The Living World’s Demands, which blends her vocals with sitar and synth; don’t miss “Circuit.”
