Adam Wiltzie
Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Adam Wiltzie, an American ambient musician from New York City. We’ve previously featured his group acts Stars of the Lid (with Brian McBride) and A Winged Victory for the Sullen (with Dustin O’Halloran). Wiltzie has a knack for creating the sound this newsletter is always in search of: an atmosphere of profundity. Ever since Stars of the Lid’s 1995 debut LP, Music for Nitrous Oxide, Wiltzie has produced slow-moving, cinematic ambient works that pair orchestral grandeur with digital complications. Earlier this month he released his first official solo LP, Eleven Fugues for Sodium Pentothal. It’s another excellent demonstration of his usual style and solemn nod to the passing, last year, of his longtime collaborator McBride.
